Book Club

We met on May 7 to discuss THE ROUND HOUSE, written by Louise Erdrich.

Most of us found it a difficult read. Not just the subject matter, but also it seemed too “wordy”.

The good news is that the book lead us into an interesting discussion (led by Linda Smith)

on the life of indigenous people then and now.  Our next meeting will be June 4, where we will talk about THE BUDDHA IN THE ATTIC, written by Julie Otsuka.

Come check out a book and join us.

Welcome Summer ~ The time to share is here!

The “Bring and Take Table” is set up at the front entrance door. It will be there through the summer for you to bring in anything that relates to the activity of gardening. Seeds, pots, tools and those little extra sprouts that are a shame to throw away are welcome. Later, flowers and vegetables. The is no charge for anything that is taken. We ask that you dust extra dirt off and label what you can. As the price of gardening continues to rise, this activity is very helpful to many of us.

Thank You from The Bring and Take Team   Questions? Message Susan at 360-506-2329

Message from the “A” Team

The goal of the our team is to provide needed support for the children in the Centralia School system wherever needed. However, sometimes we find that this leads to other needs. At a recent meeting with Pastor Patty Howard of the Gospel Mission and Gin Pak of the Salvation Army, they were asked of any ongoing unmet need for their missions. Both of them replied that they always need bedding for their overnight shelter ministries, that they never have enough. This need is for anything that can be machine washed. Sleeping bags, blankets, duvets, and sheets etc.

Much is available during this time of the putting away of winter bedding, garage sales, rummage sales and the source of several thrift stores. If you would like to help meet this need, you can bring any donation to the kitchen end of the gym and we will see to the distribution of it between the two agencies.

You will be helping to give a safe comfortable sleep to our homeless sisters and brothers. Question? Message Susan at 360-506-2329

 NOISY OFFERING

Thank you for your generous donations as the children collected Noisy Offering during Lent and on Easter morning! The grand total was $700.80 to be divided equally between Food Packs for Unhoused Students, Kids Kloset, Fiddlesticks Cooperative Preschool, Hope Housing Collaborative, and Lutheran World Relief, distributing funds locally, in the region and internationally. We’ll highlight each one of those recipients in the weeks to come.

Your love makes a difference in the world!

This week we learn about …HOPE HOUSING COLLABORATIVE OF LEWIS COUNTY.

Hope Housing Collaborative of Lewis County (HHCLC) is a 501c3 organization dedicated to serving vulnerable populations in Lewis County through transitional housing, safe parking, and other housing-related endeavors.  Our purpose is to provide safe housing in a community environment where residents are supported and encouraged to pursue personal goals, including those of permanent housing and employment.

Shalom Village, Hope Housing’s first project, will be the first transitional supportive housing facility in Lewis County.  The community building is currently being built with help from CHS construction students, volunteers, and hired contractors. It features space for kitchen, meeting room, bathrooms, and laundry. Two duplexes are now under construction by volunteer, retired contractors; two more will be completed in the fall. We are searching for funds needed for the last two duplexes. The shelters will give each resident a private, secure place to sleep.  Additionally, a case manager will help residents set goals, including employment and permanent housing.

HHCLC’s second project is Safe Parking. We are excited that Immanuel Lutheran will be one of Safe Parking’s six campuses. Families with school children will be able to sleep in their cars in a safe, legal environment with garbage and sanitation provided. We will also provide information and access to services such as the county’s Coordinated Entry.  Our start date is July 7, 2025. Thank you, Immanuel Lutheran, for being such an amazing partner for Safe Parking. You have done a wonderful job of laying the groundwork to successfully serve families in your neighborhood. Hope Housing would also like to thank Immanuel Lutheran for your generous encouragement, prayers and financial support of both projects. You truly bring to life the message of Matthew 25:40.
