Book Club
We met on May 7 to discuss THE ROUND HOUSE, written by Louise Erdrich.
Most of us found it a difficult read. Not just the subject matter, but also it seemed too “wordy”.
The good news is that the book lead us into an interesting discussion (led by Linda Smith)
on the life of indigenous people then and now. Our next meeting will be June 4, where we will talk about THE BUDDHA IN THE ATTIC, written by Julie Otsuka.
Come check out a book and join us.
American Cancer Society—Relay for Life
Immanuel is once again participating in the
American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Fundraiser.
It will be held on May 17th from 10am to 10pm at the SWW Fairgrounds.
If you would like to join us please contact Karen Alderson at karen@aldersons.net.
If you would like to donate, our team members include
Al Blouin, Arnie Guenther, Jeri Hess, Diane Jewell, & Karen Alderson.
Welcome Summer ~ The time to share is here!
The “Bring and Take Table” is set up at the front entrance door. It will be there through the summer for you to bring in anything that relates to the activity of gardening. Seeds, pots, tools and those little extra sprouts that are a shame to throw away are welcome. Later, flowers and vegetables. The is no charge for anything that is taken. We ask that you dust extra dirt off and label what you can. As the price of gardening continues to rise, this activity is very helpful to many of us.

Message from the “A” Team
The goal of the our team is to provide needed support for the children in the Centralia School system wherever needed. However, sometimes we find that this leads to other needs. At a recent meeting with Pastor Patty Howard of the Gospel Mission and Gin Pak of the Salvation Army, they were asked of any ongoing unmet need for their missions. Both of them replied that they always need bedding for their overnight shelter ministries, that they never have enough. This need is for anything that can be machine washed. Sleeping bags, blankets, duvets, and sheets etc.
Much is available during this time of the putting away of winter bedding, garage sales, rummage sales and the source of several thrift stores. If you would like to help meet this need, you can bring any donation to the kitchen end of the gym and we will see to the distribution of it between the two agencies.
You will be helping to give a safe comfortable sleep to our homeless sisters and brothers. Question? Message Susan at 360-506-2329
NOISY OFFERING
Thank you for your generous donations as the children collected Noisy Offering during Lent and on Easter morning! The grand total was $700.80 to be divided equally between Food Packs for Unhoused Students, Kids Kloset, Fiddlesticks Cooperative Preschool, Hope Housing Collaborative, and Lutheran World Relief, distributing funds locally, in the region and internationally. We’ll highlight each one of those recipients in the weeks to come.
Your love makes a difference in the world!
This week we learn about ....Food Packs for Unhoused Students.
The A Team was originally organized for supplying household goods for families moving into the Reliable II Apartments. We are currently in a holding pattern on that until the 7 new apartments are built. Rather than disbanding, we are currently trying to meet some of the needs of the over 100 unhoused and underhoused children in the Centralia School District. The A Team, representing Immanuel Lutheran, is seeing that the needs of unhoused youth are fed when they are not at school. Currently the need, according to Natasha Babka, the School District person that is overseeing this mission in the Centralia School District, is for food stuffs that are aimed specifically at Middle School and High School students. Immanuel is helping fulfill these needs with foods for those students that are sent home weekly from the district. Thank you for your participation in this.
